Analysis of high-order velocity moments in a strained channel flow

In the current study, model expressions for fifth-order velocity moments obtained from truncated Gram-Charlier series expansions a turbulent flow field probability density function are validated using data direct numerical simulation (DNS) of planar in strained channel. Simplicity expressions, lack unknown coefficients, and their applicability to non-Gaussian flows make this approach attractive use closing models based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The study confirms validity expressions. It also shows that imposed deformation improves an agreement between DNS profiles buffer zone including when reverses its direction. reveals sensitivity particularly odd grid resolution. A new length scale is proposed as criterion generation near wall other areas dominated by high mean gradients higher-order statistics have be collected DNS.
